What is Cupping?

Cupping is a way of tasting coffee to check if it is free from defect and to analyse its flavours.

On Saturday 17th of August, at Safari Lounge, we would like to welcome you to our cupping session, where you will discover great coffee from Kenya and Uganda, Natural, Washed, Honey and Carbonic Maceration processes.

Don’t worry if you do not know what are these processes, we will also run a small Introduction to Coffee to learn a bit more about coffee, and a home brewing session to brew these delicious coffee.

The farmers will be present to introduce their coffees, will have some samples of green coffee for potential buyers and some roasted coffee for sale.

BECOME AN AST

First AST course in Kenya.

SCA courses are taught by hundreds of Authorized SCA Trainers (ASTs) in locations around the globe. ASTs are coffee professionals who use their knowledge and training skills to deliver SCA courses. Our trainers deliver course content and assess the written and practical examinations required to pass each module, audited by the SCA.

Becoming an AST will give you the unique opportunity to teach the Coffee Skills Program (CSP) curriculum at your own Authorized Training Venue or Premium Training Campus.

The Coffee Skills Program is also offered at SCA events around the world. Lead trainer positions as well as assistant trainer positions (station instructors) for CSP courses are selected via an application and review process. Please contact education@sca.coffee for more information.

We’ll provide you with all the necessary training on our two-day AST course as well as support from SCA staff to help guide you as you begin teaching your own courses.

SCA requires a three-month gap between taking and passing an Intermediate level module and taking and passing the CSP Professional level of the same module. A three-month gap is required between passing the CSP Professional level and following the AST course.

A 3-year AST license costs

  • €1500 EUR / $1800 USD
  • plus €200 EUR / $240 per certifier license
  • Adding an extra module costs €200 EUR / $240 USD

Come to Nyeri to work and live in coffee farm. Pick and choose the week or weekend you like. As May is a quiet month, the farmers will have all the time to teach you a lot about Coffee farming.

  • The competitor must first present two separate sets of matching free-pour lattes, followed by one set of matching designer lattes. The competitor must also write “Free Pour” and “Designer” on the corresponding picture.
  • The competitors will produce a total of six (6) drinks; two (2) sets of matching free-pour lattes, and one (1) set of matching designer patterns.
  • If a drink is served without the corresponding printed photograph, that pour will receive a zero in the “Two Identical Patterns Matching the Presented Picture” category

The price of your ticket will fund a private combine huller/grader and storage container for them.

The will show you their farm, talk about their day to life and struggles.
