AST course in Nairobi – December 2019

BECOME AN AST

First AST course in Kenya.
December 2019

SCA courses are taught by hundreds of Authorized SCA Trainers (ASTs) in locations around the globe. ASTs are coffee professionals who use their knowledge and training skills to deliver SCA courses. Our trainers deliver course content and assess the written and practical examinations required to pass each module, audited by the SCA.

Becoming an AST will give you the unique opportunity to teach the Coffee Skills Program (CSP) curriculum at your own Authorized Training Venue or Premium Training Campus.

The Coffee Skills Program is also offered at SCA events around the world. Lead trainer positions as well as assistant trainer positions (station instructors) for CSP courses are selected via an application and review process. Please contact education@sca.coffee for more information.

We’ll provide you with all the necessary training on our two-day AST course as well as support from SCA staff to help guide you as you begin teaching your own courses.

SCA requires a three-month gap between taking and passing an Intermediate level module and taking and passing the CSP Professional level of the same module. A three-month gap is required between passing the CSP Professional level and following the AST course.

A 3-year AST license costs

  • €1500 EUR / $1800 USD
  • plus €200 EUR / $240 per certifier license
  • Adding an extra module costs €200 EUR / $240 USD

SCA NATIONAL CHAPTER

What is a National Chapter?

A National Chapter is an entity that represents the SCA activities in a specific country or regional territory, represented by a group of elected enthusiasts from the SCA community.  Volunteer-led in delivering education, events, and research with the responsibility to make engagement opportunities available to the regional community. The Chapter embodies the vision and mission of the SCA in all activities. The Chapter entity can be one of the following 3 types:

  • Volunteer-Led Group– A group (elected membership) allowed the use of the SCA Chapter name according to guidelines during a temporary period of community establishment.
  • Affiliate Office– A registered company or association that is not a subsidiary and that has an agreement with SCA to act as representation to support the national chapter activities.
  • Branch Office– A SCA registered company or association (such as a subsidiary) that represents the national chapter activities.  Branch offices would have SCA staff for some administrative functions and support to the elected chapter leadership.

What is the purpose of an SCA Chapter?

SCA National Chapters are a reflection of the SCA vision, mission and purpose with the ability to convene local community.  Chapters can more efficiently develop and serve their communities with respect to culture and language to provide access, influence, and sense of belonging to a network locally; as well as being a part of a greater global network.

How are Chapters formed?

SCA are currently in the process of assessing our strategy for National Chapter development globally and welcome dialogue on how we can build a model that best serves our communities.  The current threshold of membership and representation community in a country is a minimum of 25 SCA members, 3 of which need to be business/corporate. If that minimum is met, we jointly review the circumstances of legal entities and formations that preserve a neutral network that the local community can support.  We currently recognize only one group as the SCA Chapter in countries where Chapters exist.
